WHEN SOMEONE SAYS G- - - - - -E, EVERYBODY NODS
How convenient is a conscience
That is only roused to sorrow
Against those on whom the cruel
Paints its target, for the present:
What a warm and cozy feeling
To deplore their every action
As they strive against their danger
To psychologize the motives
Of the few who still dare friend them,
And to pose before a mirror
That will never show the portrait
Of a soul by fear corroded,
Nor what looms behind your shoulder
With its knife upraised and gleaming.
